League members impress in opening week

With several Trinity League football teams playing big-time opponents in week 1, the Trinity League Football Podcast was able to check in with four of the five teams.

Host Ryan Abraham talked with Mater Dei athletic director Kevin Kiernan and Bishop Gorman assistant coach David Wallum about their teams’ big wins. Edison coach Jeff Grady talked about his team’s tough loss to Corona Centennial and Orange Lutheran AD Patrick Harbison gave his thoughts on his team’s win over Mission Viejo.

Santa Margarita’s stunning start

One team that didn’t play this week was Santa Margarita, which had a bye before its showdown with St. John Bosco. The Eagles are coming off a stunning win over Servite in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 championship game last season.

Head coach Anthony Rouzier spoke with Abraham about how Santa Margarita plans to build on that success and what he expects from St. John Bosco this season.

Trinity League teams in action next week

All five Trinity League teams will be in action next week with several key matchups.

No. 1 Mater Dei will host No. 12 Bishop Gorman at 7 p.m. Friday at Santa Ana Stadium.

No. 3 St. John Bosco will host No. 5 Santa Margarita at 7 p.m. Friday at Cerritos College.

Edison will host Inglewood at 7 p.m. Friday at the Orange County Great Park.

Orange Lutheran will host Carlsbad at 7 p.m. Friday at Orange Lutheran High School.

JSerra will play at La Mirada at 7 p.m. Friday at La Mirada High School.
